Visiting Silver Fox Bar for some Empath Music
by Mike Generic
Last night, I went to watch Heath, Rick, and Randy practice their punk rock and witnessed their creativity. After a good 2 hours of practice, I went back to my apartment and listened to some more Screeching Weasel tunes. A couple hours later, I drove down to see Empath perform at Silver Fox Bar. I have heard from Silver Fox Bar that they enjoy watching these guys so I went ahead and watched them to witness their talents.

Empath consists of the Seaton brothers: Charles, Destin, and Brett.
I was able to get to the bar @ 10:15 pm and luckily Empath was still setting up their instruments. Actually, they didn't play until about 10:40 pm when they were supposed to play @ 10 pm. So, during that thirty minutes, I had the privilege to watch Steve-O's butt pierced on MTV's Jackass on the bar's big screen TV. It was gross, bloody, and disgusting but all of us in the bar seemed to have enjoyed it. One moment, right after the needle successfully went through Steve-O's butt, the audience in the bar were like, "Ooooouuucchh!"
Pangolese were also there to play right after Empath but It was way too late for me to stay. I was getting worn out. I had a long day of work, errands, and a trip to the band practice.

Silver Fox Bar is always a nice place to hangout. Maybe when I'm not broke, I'll actually buy a few drinks. The atmosphere of the bar has that sense of elegant informality. Most bars are the same: nicely dressed women and men are in their best bar attire. The place is always packed with friends and the regulars. Silver Fox is a pretty laid back bar. I heard one girl saying, "...the best part about this bar is you can smoke." Every one seemed to know each other.
Michael, one of the bartenders, with his video camera, recorded the entire performance of Empath for the night while I snapped a few pictures. During the night, Michael asked me if we, The 28's, were ready to play @ the bar. Then he added, "The guys from the Rumors told me." I told him that we never knew about the show with Rumor here @ the Silver Fox Bar, which was scheduled for Feb 23rd. However, I reassured Michael that we are probably going to play on that night because we love to play the Silver Fox.

The first thing I noticed about Empath was the drumset, a nice pearly Tama drum kit. The drums sounded great for their genre of music. They were so tight as a band. I know little of these guys. This is the first time I heard them play live.
The sound of Empath's music is definitely original. You can go ahead and visit their myspace page but I don't know what other bands I could compare their music. Their perfomance was solid and the crowd enjoyed it and so did I. It's always good hearing different types of music and last night I was glad to hear Empath's own style.

I was able to converse with Destin, the drummer, after their set when he was loading his drums into their SUV. The last time they played was probably a month ago. They just finished recording their songs and they are ready to be mastered. Go visit their myspace to sample their music.

These guys are definitely a must watch if you like alternative rock / indie.
I went back to my apartment hoping that the big red-nose pit won't chase me again to my apartment 'cuz I wasn't about to run incredibly fast that night. I was too high from the cigarette smoke @ the Silver Fox Bar. Luckily, the killing machine was nowhere to be found.

Yes, I can see that these guys are humble. As Terry of Silver Fox said the other night, "I like these guys not only as a musician but they are good bunch of kids."
They played really good last night.
