How did you pick the band name?
I joined The 28's about a month ago. However, I was curious enough about the band's name and asked Clay, our vocalist/guitarist, about it. Well, I soon found out that The 28's does not have any meaning to it at all. Clay and the rest of the band wanted "The" in front and any numbers, and booooom! Someone mentioned "28s". We just wanted to find the "right sound" that sounds good with the word "The." Well, there you go ... The 28's
How would you define your sound?
It's hard to hear how we sound like, but I would say the combination of Green Day, Screeching Weasel, Face to Face, and The Ramones. Pop-punk, punk rock, snotty-ish style on vocals. If I may, the bass lines are derived and influenced by Mike Dirnt of Green Day. So, there you go.
Describe your creative process for writing and composing music?
Heck if I know, I don't write the songs. Well, actually I do but it's not The 28's. Clay Pigeon writes all the lyrics. Here's how we usually do it. Clay does not like to focus on a topic and then just write a lyric about it, he has to feel his mood. If he's mad about something, he writes about that specific matter. If he's having a good day, he might actually write lyrics related to it. However, he writes these lyrics without any instruments. Ok, it goes like this ... Clay would bring out the lyrics and we start to stir any combination of chord patterns, then Clay starts singing his lyric into the mix of chords. The rest is history.
If you guys were to play with another band, who would it be?
Haha ... I'm speaking for me. I would say Green Day since Billie Joe comes up with the simpliest chord progression yet accompanies it with meaningful and fun to sing lyrics. He's just so talented at what he does. Mike Dirnt, great bass line, a perfectionist. And Tre Cool, come on ... who doesn't want to hang out with the guy who says, when asked why there isn't any cloud in the sky and says, "Because God wants to see his favorite band play again." Well Tre, I'll watch you guys anytime. If only The Ramones was still around.
Where / how often / how do you guys practice?
Not enough, i think. Well, 2 days a week for about 2 hours each time. We practice at Clay Pigeon's garage. It's actually pretty nice. How do we practice? gee ... ummm, we have a board on the garage wall and we write all the set list songs on there and we start playing from 1 - N number of songs.
Finally, why do men have nipples?
This one is simple. You see, inside the stomach, we all have boobs, we are basically all females until nature kicks in and puts in more of them Y chromosomes and make some of us into a male! Yay! then that's when boobs become useless, yet they're there. That's one of the stories I can come up with.
